What Is Anxiety?

Anxiety disorders are mental disorders diagnosed by mental health professionals. Anxiety can cause a person to feel a great deal of anxiousness and other symptoms that disrupt their ability to feel calm and comfortable in many social, work, and other settings.

Someone who has an anxiety disorder may try to control their anxiety but is unable to regulate their moods. Often, professional treatment is needed to learn how to minimize symptoms and stop anxiety from ruling someone’s life.

In the Past Year, Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. Adults Had an Anxiety Disorder

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), “An estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults had any anxiety disorder in the past year.” This means that anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health disorders in the U.S.

    What Causes an Anxiety Disorder?

One of the first things explored during treatment for anxiety disorders is any specific cause for the illness. Some people can point to an event, like being in a car accident, experiencing a one-time traumatic event, or several stressors over time. Other people can’t pinpoint what triggered their illness.

Genetics can contribute to someone developing any number of mental health disorders, including anxiety. If a relative deals with an anxiety disorder, the risk of another family member having it is higher. As well, someone with a history of abusing drugs or alcohol can be susceptible to having an anxiety disorder.

How Our Anxiety Treatment Programs in Arkansas Work

We’re here to help you or your loved one manage the symptoms of anxiety disorders and lead a fulfilling and healthy life. People with anxiety disorders have different types of needs when it comes to treatment.

Our inpatient and outpatient programs are available in four three levels of care. We speak with each person before they enroll in our program to make sure they enter the right program for them.

    • Residential Treatment: At Time Wellness, depending on the severity of someone’s anxiety, we partner with local inpatient programs so individuals can find stabilization before entering our programs.
    • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): Many of the same benefits of residential care but doesn’t require a person to live away from home. Sessions take place for several hours a day over multiple days each week.
    • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): The same focused types of therapy as available in higher levels of care, but attendance is only around three hours per day over three to five days per week.
    • Outpatient Program (OP): The final step in treatment only requires one or two appointments per week and helps people prepare to graduate from treatment.

    Therapies Offered In Anxiety Treatment

The key to overcoming anxiety is to take part in several types of therapy that help address these disorders. Therapies we offer include:

    • Psychiatry: Professional help managing the use of prescription medications that treat anxiety.
    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps people draw a correlation between their thoughts and feelings and resulting behaviors.

    • Biofeedback Therapy: A way to control physical responses to stress using the real-time effects of body functions.
    • Red Light Therapy: The use of low levels of red light to help improve depressive symptoms.
    • Music Therapy: Listening to and creating music to help relieve distress.
