Medication plays an important role in mental health recovery, but it works best as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan. At Time Wellness Arkansas, we use psychiatric medication when necessary, always pairing it with therapy and ongoing clinical support.
Whether you’re exploring antidepressants, mood stabilizers, or anti-anxiety options, our team is here to help you understand what’s available and what might be right for you.

How Medication Management Works at Time Wellness
Medication management at Time Wellness starts with a thorough psychiatric evaluation. Our team takes time to understand your symptoms, history, and goals before making any recommendations.
From there, your provider works with you to build a diagnosis and a medication plan that reflects your specific needs. This is a collaborative process. You’ll have a voice in the decisions, and your plan can shift as your needs change.
Our psychiatric care is overseen by Dr. Jawaun Lewis, MD, our Medical Director, who brings years of experience in psychiatry and medication management. Once a plan is in place, we monitor your progress closely and adjust medications as needed, so your care keeps pace with how you’re actually doing.
Types of Psychiatric Medications
There are several major classes of psychiatric medications, and each works differently depending on the condition being treated. Here’s a quick look at the categories our team prescribes most often.
Antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs)
Antidepressants are commonly used to treat both depression and anxiety by helping regulate brain chemicals like serotonin. Lexapro (escitalopram) or Wellbutrin (bupropion) are medications in this category that our providers may recommend.
Mood Stabilizers
Mood stabilizers help even out extreme highs and lows, and they’re often used for bipolar disorder. Lamictal (lamotrigine) is a mood stabilizer frequently used in our treatment plans.
Atypical Antipsychotics
Atypical antipsychotics can help manage symptoms like mood instability or psychosis, depending on the diagnosis. Our team may prescribe Vraylar (cariprazine), Abilify (Aripiprazole), or Latuda (lurasidone), depending on your individual needs.
Anti-Anxiety Medications
For anxiety, our team generally favors non-addictive medication options over benzodiazepines when appropriate. You can learn more about these choices on our non-addictive anxiety medications page.
Levels of Care Where We Manage Medication
Medication management isn’t limited to one level of care. Our psychiatric team supports clients across our full continuum, adjusting how closely we monitor medication based on where you are in treatment.
No matter which program you’re in, your medication plan stays connected to the rest of your care. Your prescriber and your therapy team communicate regularly, so nothing falls through the cracks as you move between levels of care.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
In PHP, clients attend treatment most of the day while returning home each evening. Medication management continues on a regular schedule, with check-ins built into your broader treatment plan.
This level of care works well for clients who’ve stabilized but still need consistent psychiatric oversight. Your provider can fine-tune dosages and address any side effects as you transition toward more independence.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP offers a lighter schedule than PHP, and medication management adjusts accordingly. Clients typically meet with their prescriber on a less frequent basis, while still maintaining steady communication with their care team.
This stage often focuses on confirming that a medication plan is working well as clients take on more of their daily responsibilities. Any adjustments are made with that increasing independence in mind.
Outpatient Program
In our outpatient program, medication management becomes more spaced out, reflecting a client’s continued progress. Appointments are scheduled regularly enough to catch any changes, while giving clients more room to manage their own routine.
This level of care is often a good fit for clients who are mostly stable and primarily need periodic check-ins to maintain their medication plan over time.
Virtual Treatment
Virtual treatment lets clients continue medication management remotely, which is especially helpful for those who’ve completed in-person care or live somewhere without easy access to outpatient services. Appointments are conducted online, with the same level of clinical attention as an in-person visit.
This option helps clients stay consistent with their care long after stepping down from a higher level of support, so progress made earlier in treatment doesn’t get lost.
Medication as Part of an Integrated Treatment Plan
Medication works best when it’s combined with therapy, not used on its own. At Time Wellness, your prescriber and your therapist communicate regularly, so your treatment plan stays consistent across every part of your care.
This integrated approach means medication decisions are never made in isolation. They’re informed by what’s happening in your therapy sessions, how you’re responding day to day, and the goals you’ve set for your recovery.
